What Women Want

What Men Think Women Want

Marketing conditions us to believe that having big arms and a 6 pack is what women want, social media tells us money and fame is what women want and, in this article, we are going to touch on what women actually want.

We all like attention from the opposite sex. As a man it validates us, feeds our ego and gives our balls a tickle. Now, for a woman to be interested in a man there must be attraction, the definition of which is ‘a quality or feature that evokes interest, liking or desire.’

As dating is at our fingertips (think Tinder) this attraction is becoming more and more based on physical appearance. Sure, personality is what matters (especially in the long run) but unfortunately you can’t swipe someone's personality.

Recently I’ve been spending a lot of time on Instagram promoting the @ladlifts page and in the process, I have seen tens of thousands of pages, posts, comments and engagements. I knew that the gym and bodybuilding featured heavily on Instagram but I was shocked at just how big the industry is and how many followers these guys have.

Let’s be honest, a large proportion (not all) of guys aspire to look like fitness models or bodybuilders to get girls but the question is, does it work? I delved in to some of the biggest names on Instagram to find out. What I learned (and I recommend  that you take a look for yourself) was that their followers were made up almost exclusively of guys, a point summed up perfectly in the following sketch.

To find out how big the problem was I did a bit of research and looked at some stats about bodybuilding and was shocked to find that;-

Up to 1 million people in the UK are taking anabolic steroids and other image- and performance-enhancing drugs (IPEDs) to change the way they look, public health experts and doctors have said.

WTF bro! Let me get this right, men in their absolute fucking droves are risking their health and are spending a small fortune to try and look like bodybuilders that ironically attract an almost all male following (facepalm).

What is the most desirable physique?

To find out what women actually find attractive I did the logical thing and asked them. In the process I got banned from both Reddit and Quora but I did manage to get 25 women to answer which of the following photos (represented by body fat %) they liked the most.

 Here are the results;-

Although the women had to give one answer, most said they liked multiple physiques, typically 10-20% body fat. Coupled with the fact that no one chose 3-4% and only 1 person chose 6-7% these results very much support the above message. Now, this study is small so I wouldn't swear by it but I do feel it makes an interesting point.

We'll be looking into this subject in way more detail in future blogs so if you've found this interesting or your the one smashing down those growth hormones, do yourself a favour, put down the needle and subscribe on our homepage for more on what women want, self improvement and men's products.
